Pay per lead / Coatings · Painting · Permanent lighting
One lead.
One LMC client.
An exclusive lead is supplied by the provider to one contractor. A shared lead is supplied to multiple contractors. LMC delivers each homeowner lead to one LMC client only, for both pay per lead and the appointment service. We never share or resell it.
Key takeaways
- “Pay per lead” describes the payment model. It does not tell you whether the lead is exclusive.
- Lead exclusivity and territory exclusivity are different commitments.
- An exclusive enquiry is not a guaranteed sale or a promise that the homeowner will avoid other quotes.
- Ask what the provider actually does with the same enquiry, including later resale.
01 / Exclusive vs shared leads
What are you buying exclusivity over?
The useful question is whether the provider supplies the same homeowner enquiry to another contractor. The word “exclusive” should describe that handling, not merely suggest that you receive the lead before somebody else.
Ask whether another business receives the same enquiry at the same time, whether it can be sold again later, and whether partners or resellers also distribute it. Do not assume that “verified,” “qualified” or “local” answers those questions. Those terms describe different aspects of a service.
At LMC, the answer is direct: each homeowner lead goes to one LMC client and is never shared or resold. That rule applies whether your team follows up under PPL or LMC’s human setters handle calling and booking under the appointment option.
02 / Exclusive vs shared leads
A protected territory is a separate question.
A lead can be exclusive even when a provider works with more than one business in a wider region. Conversely, a sales claim about a territory does not explain how a particular enquiry is distributed. Ask about both.
LMC includes territory exclusivity, with your territory agreed before starting. We do not publish a universal radius or promise that every requested area is available. Define the service area and territory with the team before launch.
For a contractor, this matters because a city name can be a poor description of the work you can reach. Write down the actual area you can serve and discuss any edge cases, instead of assuming the campaign boundary matches the way your crew travels.
03 / Exclusive vs shared leads
Can the homeowner still get another quote?
Yes. A homeowner can independently contact other contractors, search online or ask a neighbor for a recommendation. Provider exclusivity does not remove that choice.
An illustrative example: LMC delivers a painting enquiry only to your company. The homeowner also calls a painter recommended by a friend. Your LMC lead remains exclusive because LMC did not distribute it to the other painter.
Your conversation still has to earn trust. Confirm what the homeowner wants, explain the estimate process, show relevant work you have permission to share and follow through on the next step you agree. Exclusivity does not replace selling or good project delivery.
04 / Exclusive vs shared leads
Exclusivity does not answer every quality question.
An exclusive lead may still have an incorrect number or be outside the area you agreed to serve. Those are validity questions. A valid homeowner enquiry may also go unanswered; that is a contact outcome, not proof that the lead was shared.
Keep these categories separate when reviewing performance. Record the factual issue rather than marking every unsuccessful opportunity “bad lead.” That makes it easier to identify campaign fit, contact, estimating or sales problems.
With LMC PPL, wrong numbers, duplicates and out-of-area enquiries can be replaced. A valid unanswered lead remains payable. The replacement guide explains those distinctions.
05 / Exclusive vs shared leads
Five questions to ask any lead provider.
- Does the same enquiry go to more than one contractor?
- Can you or a distribution partner resell it later?
- What exactly does any territory protection cover?
- Who contacts the homeowner, qualifies the job and books the estimate?
- What counts as an invalid lead, and what happens when there is no answer?
Get clear answers before comparing headline prices. Two offers can use the same label while handing over different work and risk to your team.
For LMC’s complete handover, see how our PPL service works. To review the eventual outcome, use the cost-per-won-job guide. Exclusivity is one part of that assessment, not a substitute for it.
Common questions.
Are exclusive leads guaranteed to close?
No. The homeowner still decides whether to answer, attend an estimate and accept a quote. Exclusivity describes how the provider distributes the enquiry.
Does LMC share leads if I do not answer quickly?
LMC’s confirmed policy is that homeowner leads are never shared or resold to another contractor. Your team remains responsible for follow-up under PPL.
Are shared leads always worthless?
No universal outcome follows from the label alone. Compare the distribution arrangement, workload and actual jobs won. LMC’s own service uses exclusive leads only.
